Dynamic Drafting overview

Dynamic Drafting enhances drag so that you get more feedback about aligning to points related to the cursor's location. As you move the cursor around with Dynamic Drafting enabled, ArtiosCAD displays horizontal and vertical alignment lines to points on the screen.

If ArtiosCAD can make an alignment with a point that satisfies the current prompt on the Status bar, it shows a solid line to that point. If it finds an alignment with a point but that alignment does not satisfy the current prompt on the Status bar, it shows a dotted line to that point. Shown below is setting the Angle prompt for a line using drag. Aligning with the midpoint of either the cut or crease line can satisfy the Angle prompt for the Line tool.

In the example above, ArtiosCAD displayed the alignment point (the green square) because the cursor was within the snap tolerance to that point.

In the example below, aligning to the midpoint of the line does not satisfy the Radius prompt of the Circle tool because the horizontal location of the proposed point is not aligned, so ArtiosCAD shows a dotted line.

However, in the different example below, because Dynamic Drafting could align the Radius prompt of the Circle tool to the point defined by the midpoints of both lines, it shows an alignment point.

Dynamic Drafting:

If you have already set a value in a Status bar field, ArtiosCAD does not show alignments for those fields.

There are some restrictions to using Dynamic Drafting:

Note: if you have difficulty setting the prompts to a value because of ArtiosCAD's create-a-line-with-one-click behavior, press ENTER to set the value in the highlighted prompt, and press TAB to move between the prompts.
